Reel Review: Prime Video’s New Erotic Thriller 56 Days Reveals A Crime of Passion
Prime Video’s newest series 56 Days features the epic love story between a psychopath and a con-artist… and spoiler alert, it’s just as unsettling as it sounds.
Starring in the thriller series is Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia. After an accident that causes the death of her brother, Ciara (Cameron) seeks revenge on Oliver (Jogia) and his family. 56 days later, Ciara and Oliver are placed at the center of an intense murder investigation, where their pasts unravel a huge web of secrets and lies.
Leading the investigation is Karla Souza and Dorian Missick as our iconic good cop, bad cop duo. With each piece of evidence Lee (Souza) and Karl (Missick) uncover, more is revealed about Ciara and Oliver’s relationship. One thing is clear early on: we don’t know who to trust.
Gone are the childhood actors; Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia have really grown into their own and fully embodied their characters. Ciara’s mind is so complex, she is always ten steps ahead of us. Meanwhile, Oliver is so far into his own mind that he tends to see things that aren’t actually there, making us believe it too. More than flawed, Ciara and Oliver are twisted. But Cameron and Jogia’s chemistry is addictive, thrilling, and sensual; allowing us to root for them time and time again.
Talk about reveals and revelations; the way the series wraps up gives us actual chills and goosebumps. The series does an incredible job with keeping up the mystery and suspense until the very end. After seven jaw-dropping episodes, it was the last episode that had us on the edge of our seats and rethinking everything.
Prime Video has perfectly crafted a dark, twisted, and completely enthralling series. From struggling addiction, psychotic breakdowns, and deceptive twists; 56 Days is unsettling in all the best ways. If you can stomach it, 56 Days is the ultimate erotic thriller that is about to change your life!
