Reel Review: Maxton Hall Season 2 is Even More Emotional and Sends a Powerful Message

We have finally arrived back at our favorite elite school, where Ruby and Jame’s story continues in Maxton Hall Season 2!

Season 2 of the hit Prime Video series picks up where we left off; with the death of Jame’s mother and Ruby’s looming future at Oxford. Ruby, trying to set a steady future for herself, finds herself being threatened by Jame’s father in every corner she turns. Meanwhile, James is determined to go through hell and back to make the relationship work.

Returning to Ruby and James are German actors Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damien Hardung; who showcase their wide acting ranges with incredibly moving performances. Hardung delivers specifically on the emotional breakdowns while depicting an accurate representation of the stages of grief.

Season 2 of Maxton Hall consists of drama after more drama; while really leaning into the struggle between different social classes. Ruby and James couldn’t be from more opposite worlds, but after each obstacle they are thrown into, their love shines through. In this way, Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damien Hardung’s chemistry is the anchor that holds the entire show together.

There is an overarching theme present in Season 2 that deals with grief and loss. While James has all the money in the world, his family is torn apart by the death of his mother and the villain his father has become. In contrast Ruby, while coming from no money, has a close knit family that lets James in with open arms.

Season 2 has perfectly mastered the aesthetic scenes, from color palettes to the London scenery. The montages and music are so beautifully placed and help to move Ruby and James’ story along. Overall, the new season felt elevated both in the technical camera work, and through the emotional performances of the actors!

Maxton Hall Season 2 is available on Prime Video now!
