Reel Review: Off Campus Delivers Swoon Worthy Hockey Players and One Epic Romance
Hockey romance is officially trending and Prime Video just scored with their newest drama series. Off Campus is steamy, sappy, and addictively binge-worthy!
Based on the novels written by Elle Kennedy, the series centers around the students and hockey team at Briar University. Off Campus Season 1 follows Hannah Wells (Ella Bright) and Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli), and their ‘opposites attract’ love story. When a fake dating scheme takes a wrong turn, Hannah and Garrett end up falling for each other and dragging their friends into their mess.
Bright and Cameli transform their characters from the book, completely captivating us with their chemistry and banter from the first episode. With the help of the supporting cast, Stephen Kalyn, Antonio Cipriano, Josh Heuston, and Mika Abdalla, this whole group captures authentic college students living in a small town.
Off Campus is not just another teen romance. The series explores mature themes of abuse, sexual assault, and addiction that are so relevant in today’s society. The cast showcases a wide range of performances; from emotionally heartfelt tears to high stakes fighting. The heavier storylines are balanced with romance, humor, and drama throughout eight complex episodes.
Prime Video’s new series gives a new spin on the soapy college experience we all need in our lives! College is the time to discover yourself, and for Hannah and her friends, their story is no different. The series captures the importance of friendship and the power of effective communication. Hannah and Garrett are forced to confront their pasts and, with the help of their friends, move past their trauma.
One thing we absolutely adored from the series was the amount of 80’s and 90’s references we were served! From the music to the movies, Off Campus brought us back to our roots with references to classics like Dirty Dancing and even recreating the iconic Sixteen Candles scene. While this series is fit for Gen-Z, it has a little bit for everyone to enjoy!
Off Campus is sure to have all the girlies swooning. I mean, seriously, who doesn’t love an emotionally-damaged hockey team? It’s safe to say we have some new players to add to our roster! The series offers beautiful moments straight from the book for readers, while giving new fans a glimpse into the Briar Universe.
While Hannah and Garrett may have gotten their happy ending, with another season already greenlit, we know there is so much more to the story! Prime Video scored another slapshot, as Off Campus is sure to become your newest obsession!
