Reel News: Mystery Awaits in The Housemaid, Starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney

The gripping series, The Housemaid, by Freida McFadden, is coming to the big screen, and fans finally have a first look at photos of the psychological thriller. Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone. A Simple Favor director, Paul Feig, directed the film, with the screen adaptation being written by Rebecca Sonnenshine.

The story follows Millie (Sweeney), a young woman desperately trying to outrun her dark past. Living in her car, dying for a job, and fresh out of prison, Millie jumps at the opportunity to be the live-in housemaid for the Winchester family. At first, Nina Winchester (Seyfried) welcomes Millie to her home with open arms. Still, as time goes on, Millie starts to wonder if Nina is hiding something sinister. It also doesn’t help that Nina’s husband, Andrew (Sklenar), is devastatingly handsome, charming, and warm-hearted. As Millie’s new life progresses, she uncovers more about the dark secrets of the Winchester home, and she wonders if she’ll ever make it out of this job alive.

The Housemaid book series is beloved worldwide, so the pressure to do the film justice is definitely looming. News that Sweeney would play the title character broke last October when the Anyone But You actress posted a playful reel on Instagram where she’s reading the book. The page-turner series is known for its addictive tone that leaves readers shocked until the very end. Sonnenshine told People that the film will stay loyal to the original plot of the book, but with some fun twists and turns sprinkled in.

Enter the dark and twisted Winchester home at your own risk, and remember, you never know who you can trust. If you want a scandalous, sexy, and thrilling mystery, check out The Housemaid when it hits theaters on December 19.
