Reel Review: Sidelined: Intercepted Will Leave You Wanting A Third Film
Tubi’s original Sidelined: A QB Bad Boy and Me captivated all of BookTok last year when we were introduced to Dallas and Drayton. Now, the couple is officially back with a sequel that will shake things up in Sidelined: Intercepted.
Dallas, an aspiring dancer, has officially been accepted into her dream school for the same dance program her mother attended. Meanwhile Drayton, following in his father’s footsteps, is starting to realize that college football is different from his high school days. Together, Dallas and Drayton are set on making their long distance relationship work while they are at college. What could possibly go wrong?
Noah Beck and Siena Agudong return to their roles as Drayton and Dallas for the film. It is clear that the two actors have only gotten more comfortable this time around; delivering banter, passion, and tons of chemistry! Of course, things can’t stay perfect for long; when the film introduces a new character that comes to shake things up for them.
The addition of Charlie Gillespie’s character, Skyler, was a great decision. When elements of Drayton and Dallas’s relationship start to feel repetitive, Skyler is there to refresh and further complicate things. Skyler and Dallas begin working at the same coffee shop on campus; which in turn messes with Dallas’s emotions and leads to a jealous Drayton. Gillespie’s performance quickly takes over our hearts and he even delivers an original song to the film.
Like most rom-coms, there is a certain structure we follow; all of which leads to a happy ending. However, Sidelined: Intercepted jumps of the rails, which makes the film unpredictable and heavily enjoyable! Even up until the very end, the viewers are left wondering if Dallas and Drayton will end up back together. When the couple chooses to go their separate ways for college, fans are now left desperately waiting for a third movie!
The franchise thus far has been nothing short of feel good and cheesy; but who doesn’t love a good rom-com? Noah Beck and Siena Agudong are the perfect actors to tell this story; still young in their careers and more potential for growth. If you are looking for a lighthearted sports romance, Sidelined: Intercepted will not disappoint. In fact, you will be left wanted another one like the rest of us!
Both Sidelined: A QB Bad Boy and Me and Sidelined: Intercepted are available to watch now on Tubi.
