Reel Review: Tell Me Softly Offers New Love Triangle Between Two Brothers
After the success of The Summer I Turned Pretty, it seems that love triangles between two brothers are back! Prime Video’s newest spanish-romance offers more drama and a whole new love triangle in Tell Me Softly.
Based on the book by Mercedes Ron, Tell Me Softly follows Kamila and her relationship between the Di Bianco brothers, Taylor and Thiago. After a tragic incident forces the brothers out of town, the two return 7 years later to the very same school as Kami. Now, she is forced to confront the secrets of her past and take control of her own heart.
The angsty romance stars Alícia Falcó as Kamila, Fernando Lindez as Thiago, and Diego Vidales as Taylor. In a classic Fisher brother’s fashion, Taylor is a Jeremiah; sunshine and smiles, while Thiago is the Conrad; brooding and mysterious type. The film actually does an incredible job at getting us to fall for both. In this way, we feel for Kami and understand her emotions; though her relationship with the brothers date all the way back to their childhoods.
The film takes a darker turn in showing a series of flashbacks; where we discover that the Di Bianco brothers once had a little sister that died tragically in a car accident. In a long misconstrued story, Kamila has held on to this idea that the death was her fault. The film portrays really heavy and emotional performances from its cast, and the way the story reveals itself was very well done.
The entire cast of the film is talented, though it was Fernando Lindez portrayal of Thiago that completed the film. We come to see how tragic childhood traumas influenced both Kami and Taylor’s adult lives; but have left an even deeper mark on Thiago. The film leaves us wanting more from these three, as Kami still has a big decision to make; who does her heart belong to?
Overall, Tell Me Softly delivered as Prime Video’s newest angsty romance, revealing dark secrets and blurred boundaries that create a well rounded story, and remains true to Ron’s novel!
