Reel Review: School Spirits Shocking Season 3 Finale Pulls off the Ultimate Body Swap

Season 3 of School Spirits has officially concluded, and this season was nothing short of intense! From new villains that threatened Split River High to pulling off the ultimate body swap; the end of the season left us yelling at our screens and wanting more!

With Maddie officially back in her own body, alive and well, she now requires the help of both her living friends and the spirit world to track down her best friend, Simon, who appears to be lost in limbo. The new season adds another layer to the already twisted mystery, introducing new characters and a new villain!

Alfred Van Heidt, whom the squad discovers has been possessing different bodies for decades, is now on the loose to try and destroy Split River High, taking over the body of Principle Hunter-Price (Jennifer Tilly). The stakes to get Simon back and save the school (and the spirits in it) are higher than ever.

Jennifer Tilly was an incredible addition to the cast this season. Her sassy remarks and powerful villainess became a central conflict that felt new, refreshing, and intriguing. The rest of the cast matches this energy with intense emotional performances from Peyton List, Milo Manheim, Kristian Ventura, Nick Pugliese, and Sarah Yarkin.

It, of course, wouldn’t be School Spirits without our favorite ship, Maddie and Wally, who have an interesting dynamic this season. Navigating being alive and being in love with a ghost, Maddie struggles to find which world she fits into, and Wally is there for her every step of the way. List and Manheim have built their chemistry up this season and the pay off in Episode 8 was well worth the wait!

Season 3 was filled with so many questions that didn't get answered until the very last episode; and even then, left us wanting more! A barrier was broken that leaves the spirits able to go past the boundaries of the school. And for Maddie, the villain may be closer than she thinks; as Alfred Van Heidt has now taken over her mother’s body?! With so many things still up in the air, it’s clear there is more of the story to be told as we patiently wait for a Season 4 announcement!

All 8 episodes of School Spirits are officially out on Paramount + now.
