Reel Review: Season 3 of School Spirits Just Got Even More Intense

We are officially back in Split River High for Season 3 of School Spirits. Only now, Maddie and her spirit friends are surrounded by a whole new mystery with even more drama! Be warned, the new season is full of jaw-dropping surprises!

Picking up where Season 2 left off, Maddie returns back into her own body only to discover the chaos left behind from when Janet took over. Meanwhile, Simon finds himself stuck in the space between; still living but now able to see the spirit squad. Now Maddie, with the help of her spirit friends, must solve the mystery behind Simon’s situation and return him to the living world safely.

Peyton List returns as Maddie, alongside her friends Simon (Kristian Ventura), Wally (Milo Manheim), Rhonda (Sarah Yarkin), and Charley (Nick Pugliese). Each actor brings a unique delivery to their characters this season, as we begin to see them facing their scars head on. From emotional revelations to impeccable comedic timing, its clear that the group has bonded even more in the new episodes. The squad even welcomes newer spirits to their inner circle, with Quinn (Cihang Ma) and Yuri (Miles Elliot).

With the spirits closer than ever and Maddie among the living, the ghost gang still remain loyal to their friend by vowing to help Simon. To get help from the living, they must rely on Xavier (Spencer, MacPherson), Claire (Rainbow Wedell), and Nicole (Kiara Pichardo) fall into place. As a result, we begin to see new friendships form and old relationships bloom. Like any good teen drama, it wouldn’t be fit without some of our favorite ships!

Peyton List makes a great leader of both the living and spirit squads. She gives more depth to Maddie this season; as her character deals with relationship drama, high school bullies, and her mother’s struggling addiction. The show sheds light on more mature topics; touching on addiction, bullying, society and other real world issues. Overall, Season 3 feels deeper than what we’ve seen from the past seasons in a really fitting way.

Season 3 of School Spirits opens new doors (literally) into each character’s past. By the end of each episode, we were left on the edge of our seats as a result of each twist and turn! With new forces now threatening the Split River High that we know and love, it is clear from the first three episodes that a whole new mystery awaits us this season!

The first three episodes of School Spirits Season 3 are now available on Paramount Plus!
