Disney Channel has been an essential part of our childhood and in homes all over the world. From the high energy musical numbers to the iconic couples, there is a form of comfort and nostalgia in each and every Disney Channel Original Movie. Some of the DCOMS were even fortunate enough to grow into bigger franchises. Today, we are ranking the top 5 franchises created by Disney!
5. Descendants
The first movie in the Descendants franchise aired in 2015 and starred Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, BooBoo Stewart, and Cameron Boyce as our core four. The story follows Mal and her friends as they navigate being the villain kids living among the descendants of Disney's beloved prince and princesses. The franchise grew into bigger films by adding more descendants, even up until the fourth film that was released last year; though without the original cast, the story fell flat.
4. Camp Rock
2008 was the year that we fell in love with Shane and Mitchie. Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas took us to Camp Rock, a musical camp that taught young teens how to break out into the music industry. The franchise consisted of 2 films with catchy songs, iconic moments, and high energy dancing. Even now, speculation has been swirling around whether or not a third Camp Rock is in the works!
3. Teen Beach Movie
Teen Beach Movie was a whole new wave for Disney. Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell play Brady and Mack; two teens who end up stuck inside a 1960’s beach movie musical. After altering the course of the movie, the two must befriend the main characters Lela (Grace Phipps) and Tanner (Garret Clayton) in order to set everything back on track. The movies have amazing choreography and incredible songs tied into a 60’s beach aesthetic! This was a refreshing release from Disney that still carries its weight today.
2. Zombies
The Zombies franchise definitely nears the top of Disney’s DCOM list! Milo Manheim plays Zed, a zombie longing to be accepted. After meeting Addison (Meg Donnelly) the two form a connection that quickly is rejected by their ‘perfect’ society. Each movie in this franchise holds its own with amazing songs and a beautiful message about acceptance. Even the newest film Zombies 4, set for a new generation, still remains true to that sense of nostalgia only Disney can give!
1. High School Musical
The nostalgia that comes from these films are unmatched! Without a doubt, the High School Musical franchise was Disney’s biggest. Starring Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as our Troy and Gabriella, everything about their relationship and East High School feels like home.
